Africa represents both the most immediate and the most strategically significant export opportunity for Botswana’s manufacturers. Through frameworks such as the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Botswana has preferential or structured access to a combined market of hundreds of millions of consumers. Yet many local manufacturers remain unaware of, or unable to navigate, the specific protocols, rules of origin, documentation requirements, and sector-specific standards that govern this access.  This presentation delivers a practical, country-by-country and bloc-by-bloc breakdown of what is required to export Botswana-made goods into key regional markets. including South Africa, Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, and Zambia. It examines the tariff schedules, border compliance procedures, labelling and certification requirements, and sector restrictions that manufacturers must understand before entering each market. Special attention will be given to the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as an emerging game-changer, and to the practical steps Botswana businesses can take now to position themselves for continental trade. This session is essential for manufacturers considering or actively pursuing regional expansion.

LMS26 is designed not only as a conversation space but as an action-oriented platform—connecting manufacturers with policymakers, financiers, buyers, and solution providers to unlock tangible growth opportunities. By fostering collaboration, sharing proven regional case studies, and aligning policy with industry needs, the Local Manufacturing Summit 2026 aims to play a pivotal role in positioning Botswana as a competitive manufacturing and export hub within Africa and beyond.
