YTV started transmissions 41 years ago in the early 80’s as GBC, before Botswana’s regulator was formed. Then In 2007, GB partnered with eTV and became eBotswana. In 2018, YMH Group bought the shares from eTV and then rebranded as YTV in September 2020.YTV remains the largest privately owned free to air commercial TV station in Botswana.

YTV introduced its programme line-up to satisfy the needs of its viewers in Botswana. Now broadcasting 47% local content with famous Botswana celebrities and influencers. Purchasing the broadcast rights for top notch football, entertainment and kiddies shows.

We revamped the News Studio to modern standards and selected top news readers in Botswana. Content is broadcast 95% in English, with Setswana content making up 5%.YTV also launched its countrywide footprint by satellite transmissions on IS2O. This move was taken so that every household in the country with an existing dishpan, could simply plug in our Free-View decoder and enjoy more than 40 TV channels and more than 40 radio stations.

We’ve formed many partnerships with the likes of educational facilities, print and radio media houses as well as independent local producers. We also got a new address in the elite Finance Park, the hub of many decision makers. YTV broadcasts 24/7 and understands the content needs of our target market, being middle to low-income groups, aged 18-54.
