Mr. Andrew Maatla Motsomi has led Debswana since 2022, following a distinguished tenure as Deputy Governor at the Bank of Botswana, where he held several strategic and leadership positions. His international experience includes working with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Mr. Motsomi holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Accounting from the University of Botswana, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Economic Development and Planning from the African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP), and a Master’s degree in Economics from the then Victoria University of Manchester.
He further enhanced his expertise through executive programmes and professional seminars at leading institutions in New York, USA; Frankfurt, Germany; Stockholm, Sweden; Stellenbosch, South Africa; and the Bank of England in London.

These programmes have covered key areas such as Executive Leadership Development, Reserves Management, and the Formulation and Implementation of Monetary Policy.

With nearly 40 years of experience, Mr. Motsomi’s leadership and strategic vision continue to add significant value to Debswana. His exemplary guidance has been instrumental in steering Debswana through an extended period of subdued diamond markets.

Under his leadership, Debswana successfully delivered the ODOT 2024 Strategy, maintaining focus on operational discipline, organizational effectiveness and long-term sustainability despite challenging market conditions.
