Ms Masie is a legal professional with over 20 years’ experience gained working in
international trade law, commercial law, competition enforcement, corporate governance,
regulation and special economic zone development. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
Degree from the University of Botswana, a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Trade
Law from the University of Stellenbosch, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Economics for
Competition Law from King’s College, London. She is currently the Acting Chief Executive
Officer of the Special Economic Zones Authority, leading the transformation of the
economy through the establishment of special economic zones that are aimed at
stimulating industrialization, diversification and employment creation in Botswana. From
the start of her professional career in 2005, Ms Masie has worked to facilitate business,
having started as a State Counsel in the International and Commercial Division of the
Attorney General’s Chambers where she specialized in international trade law, and during
her time as Legal and Enforcement Manager at the then Competition Authority where her
responsibility was to remove practices that hindered competition in the market. She
continues to drive her passion to see the private sector take an active role in the
development of the country, to ensure that citizens are employed and empowered and
that business opportunities are created for SMMEs. Ms Masie upholds the values of
integrity, resilience and professionalism in everything she does and carries these
attributes with her as part of her personal and professional growth.
